Bouldering Portfolio

V5 White holds

The start can be seen on the left image, and on the right image you can see the rest of the boulder. I really enjoyed setting this boulder as there is a move I had in mind to set far before I actually got the correct wall type and hold set to make it happen. After rigorous testing there was no easier alternative than to actually do the move that I had set out which was a big toe hook swing to start!

V3 Orange holds

The start of the boulder is in the bottom left on the jug and finishes quite direct on the large thin hold at the top. These holds were typically used for much harder boulder problems that weren’t accessible to most of the climbers at this particular gym. So I set this with the intention of making it much easier than the boulders they are usually set with, but at the same time introducing some more technical moves while still being on very positive holds so it was more of a matter of technique rather than strength

V5 Yellow holds

The start of the boulder is a proper sit start which is somewhat fading out of indoor climbing so I thought it deserved a comeback! I set this during the phase out of summer and into the cooler conditions, so back to setting some sloper problems

V6 Burgundy holds

The start of the boulder is a somewhat comp style start, the hold doesn’t necessarily get held but it sets up the climber for the moves ahead. I really enjoyed setting this boulder and involves some tricky foot work and precision.

V6 Orange holds

This boulder was a stand out for me as it used a set of holds I’ve not seen used at any other climbing wall as of yet. It was a tricky set of moves to hold statically. I planned to set a boulder that made a massive difference where you placed your feet to make holds more positive to force good footwork. Completing the boulder with incorrect foot placement would make it significantly harder so it was a mission success!

V10 Yellow holds

The start of the boulder is in the bottom left of the image and the finish is in the top right. I set this with the idea that it would somewhat represent a hard limestone boulder problem that would test the core tension and finger strength of the climber. This particular problem was quite well received and outlived its reset date and stayed up to pose as a test piece for stronger climbers.

MORE COMING SOON…

This portfolio may seem small as it isn’t a complete record our work.

I have had experience setting at a range of grades from VB - V10
